I'm pretty sure that people would know what day it is, and don't need to be reminded every message. Timestamps are mainly just to show what time the message was sent at, not to remind users what time it IS. But I don't see why this wouldn't be to hard to add. I'll add it to the comprehensive list .

I think it would be nice to see for example if you are away few days and you come back to your computer and you see a message, it would be convenient to see the date along with the time you recieved the message. But maybe it's not that important feature as you say
