Is there a way Stuff plug can make the chat only name, be to certain people, and have more then one?

I'd say not as the protocol probably doesn't allow it.

Because the protocol does not allow you to have one thing for a specific contact (E.g Display Pictures. It's either the display pic you use at the time or nothing. You can't have one thing for one and not the other.).

protocol. Need I say more? an IP means nothing unless you have a protocol to connect with.

but Stuffplug has Chat only name. Isnt there a way to make it change it to certain emails?
Say you open a chat with blabla@whatever.net isnt there a way to make it detect the email, change the chat only name, and then use that? Then when u talk to another person and it detects wtf@lol.ca and changes the "chat only name" to another preset name. |

And if you're in a group chat? Or switching back and fourth between chats quickly?
Like the others said, it probably isn't possible. Not to take any thunder away from Stuffplug, but I think you're best to ask this question on the MsgPlus! Live fourms. There are script codes that can detect certain things per email address, so this may be possible there. I don't script, so I don't know. Just an idea if you're interested. But I don't see this happening with Stuffplug. |

It was just merely a suggestion, and it would go a lot better if it was Stuff plug, because there will probably be people who don't use both.

I shouldn't need to explain myself to people like you, but for the sake of being bored, I might as well First of all: I know how chat only names work. In the contact list, you may have one name, while in a chat you have [usually] a shorter name. The topic creator wants a custom chat only name per contact. Which is not possible because of the protocol. How would it know who you're talking to? Which is why I brought up MsgPlus scripts, which can dissect this information. This brings me to my second point: I said I don't script, I never said I don't know how And just a quick note, you made your [spamming] self look like a complete tard by posting that. Please get a life, and stop wasting the boards bandwidth @Mada: I am aware that not all users have both programs, but no one else really offered an alternate route, so I thought I'd toss my two cents in for you |

How about we wait with the "not possible" stuff untill I look at it
The Chat-Only name is not like the DP at all, it's just something extra sent with messages, so it is actually possible to do it per-contact (although in multi-user conversations it's slightly complicated I'll see if I can make a quick way to determine who you're talking to, and if I can make something like this. And I do appreciate people helping out on stupid questions like per-contact-DPs or open-close-notifiers, but please, don't pretend to know my answer to questions never asked before And as for Plus! scripts, I can do the same, and much much more, than Plus! scripts, so don't ever say a Plus! script would make something possible that SP can't |

I know I'm not pretending...I'm going on experiences I've had while trying...unless I've done something wrong while I tried

Ok good to see the Admin's response.
Like Mada said, why bother with more complicated stuff when you can recognize contacts by their e-mails? There could be an chat-only name assigned specifically to group chats. Also stfu with the protocol crap, please read all of the previous posts. No spam please. Stay on Topic. -TheSteve This post has been edited by TheSteve: Jan 12 2007, 05:21 AM |

Also stfu with the protocol crap Protocol crap? If the protocol doesn't allow something. It makes it very difficult to do. Fortunately in this case, the protocol does allow for different names per chat conversation. If you're interested in protocol, see here. |

He definately has done something different to me that's for sure. -------------------- |

I would give this feature the thumbs up if it was to be implemented! I can have lots of fun if it was possible.
