As I was browsing the MsgPlus forums, I came across a thread about changing the taskbar icons when a user types a message. Here is the thread for credit purposes (as it was their idea): Click!.
Anyways, the main idea is that the icon would change to something else when a user is typing a message (like a glowing messenger buddy perhaps? (Example). Or some other icon located in the messenger .dll's  ). They have suggested that the icon only be changed when the protocol is receiving the message that the user is typing, and no other time.Also, the tabbed chats would be handled like this: 1. If the convo that is in focus has a typing message, the icon is displayed like normal (meaning the special icon for this feature). 2. If a convo is being typed in that ISN'T in focus, a slightly different colored icon should be displayed. However, I think a 3rd possibility should be covered, and that would be an in focus, and out of focus convo being both typed in. That would show both icons flashing back and fourth between each other... if possible. I'm not one for grabbing ideas off other sites, but I thought this would be fairly easy for TB to do (or at least easier than the MsgPlus scripters have it) since there is already code IN SP3 to change the taskbar icon based on the users status. yes that's possible without no doubt... but the tabbed chats have the same problem of the display status icons of SP...

Very nice idea, but if MsgPlus has this feature, and so does StuffPlug, and StuffPlug's version of the feature is better, that's not really "fair" on MsgPlus then, and that's downright stealing ideas for that plug-in and putting them into this one. But then again, there's no copyright on a forum is there, so ehh that's a bit iffy, otherwise I'm all for it.

Well, my take on this is to not copy features unless you can significantly improve them and the original author either can not or refuses to improve them. There's some other variations, like don't copy unless you have a good reason, but in the end it all boils down to the same thing  Anyway, back on topic, I feel it's a bit over the top to go change the icon and such on a new message in a messenger add-on. It's something that should be in the OS or some kind of shell extension, it's not something that should be done on a per-application basis. |

Probably because most people celebrate every thousand or so posts on most forum, not every hundred, as if everyone celebrated every 100 posts, the forum would just be filled with people celebrating it
Anyways, back on topic please! I kinda agree with TB about it being more a Windows thing and not a stuffplug thing, and I personally don't have a use for it... I'm happy to either wait for the message, or look at the bit at the bottom of the convo if I'm that bothered |
