Hi there, WLM has a kind of interesting feature which resides in being able to talk to somone when you're offline, and also to speak to someone who's offline.
That's cool buuuut ( cause there must be a "but") you never know if your contact is really disconnected or if he feigns Offline. So my suggestion is the following : What about differencing Offline and Disconnected (juste like Idle and Away) ? And for example to add a little mark on the grey Buddy to note if when he is just Offline (not disconnected). And maybe another one feature which could say if he received the message that you sent if he was just Offline. Thanks for helping ^^ |

Being able to do this would render the entire appear offline system useless, we might aswell call the appear offline status "hiding behind clear glass"... The appear offline system was created so u can appear offline to certain contacts (that piss you off) while been able to chat to others... Personally I feel this would breach my privacy and those on your contact list.
If a contact You know of appears offline or blocks you, it is usually for a reason, and as such has the privilege to prevent you from knowing thier current status. ----------- Aaron, Induce the Rage This post has been edited by Three6Mafia: Mar 26 2007, 06:37 AM -------------------- |

Due to how the servers and the protocol works this feature is impossible.

As x2zen already mentioned, it's impossible.
All status information is gained through the Messenger servers, and they send us exactly the same information for disconnected contacts as they do for appear-offline contacts, so there's no way to differentiate between them. |

No, there is not. When you send a message to an offline user, the message gets routed in to hotmail's offline message storage and from there your contact's client will be notified that there is new offline instant messages. The only way to tell that they got your message is by them responding to the message.

WLMd can be set up to send a receipt to you once your contact has received your email you've sent...maybe that's possible to do with WLM? I have no idea just thought I'd mentioned it, but from what's been said already I'd think this may of already been considered.
